Rangi Ruru Early Childhood College Environment

Rangi Ruru Early Childhood College is situated in Merivale, close to Christchurch city centre. The College is within close walking distance to Hagley Park and it is a 20 minute walk to the inner city area. Bus services travel past our front gates.

Our main teaching buildings are set in spacious grounds, which offer a pleasant home-like environment for the students. This is a unique feature of our setting. New developments in the outdoor area for student and staff use will enhance the existing environment.

The College complex includes three main facilities, which are located in what were previously family residences. Rossall House at No 54 Rossall St includes offices, administration and lecture room facilities for Year 1 students. The Teaching House at No 58 Rossall St is for the Year 2 and 3 teaching students and incorporates a student kitchen, a common room, Discovery room, lecture room and computer suite. The Rangi Ruru Pre-school is located close by and is an integral feature of our community.

There is an early childhood centre on site staffed by qualified and registered early childhood teachers. The Rangi Ruru Pre-school was established specifically to enhance the College’s focus on hands-on experiential learning. The close association with the Preschool provides students with opportunities to work with children alongside staff in the Preschool setting, the Discovery Room and the school gymnasium. These regular interactions enable students to develop skills and confidence in providing experiences for small groups of children.
